Primary Purpose:

Implement a comprehensive program of health services for the campus. Provide health services to students. Promote health education and preventive health practices for students.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Nursing Services

• Assist the Health Service Coordinator (District Nurse) in leading and directing daily operations of the Health Services staff to ensure a healthy environment for students and staff.
• Demonstrates high expectations for staff and relates to all individuals in ways that convey mutual respect, concern, and high expectations.
• Maintains communicable disease prevention and control measures in accordance with state and local health department regulations, district policy, and departmental procedures and protocols. Assist campus nurses to ensure that the student population is in compliance with the rules and regulations concerning communicable disease control.
• Takes a leadership role in developing, implementing, and evaluating the goals and objectives of the Health Service Department.
• Demonstrates high expectations for staff, openness to campus RNs, LVNs, Nurse Assistants, and a willingness to improve the functions of the Health Services Department.
• Relates to staff, students, and parents in ways that convey mutual respect, concern, and high expectations. Projects a positive image of the school district program.
• Takes a leadership role in developing, implementing, and evaluating the goals and objectives of the Health Services Department.

• Works with the Health Services Coordinator (District Nurse) to ensure that technology functions of the Health Services Department are supportive of the instructional program.
• Assists with orientation and ongoing training for new-to-district nurses and substitute nurses.
• Assists the Health Services Coordinator (District Nurse) in oversight and implementation of the AED (automated external defibrillator) program and Medical Emergency Response Teams (ERT).
• Assists the Health Services Coordinator (District Nurse) in implementation of Employee Wellness program and events.

Consultation

• Conducts regular on-site visits with nursing staff.
• Confers frequently with the nursing personnel regarding the management of students with specific health conditions.

Administration

• Supports and follows local, state, and federal rules and policies.
• Implements school health policies and procedures.
• Assists with gathering data for required reports to local and state agencies.
• Models behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Professional Development

24. Maintain professional nursing skills and knowledge as required by the Texas Nurse Practice Act and the Texas Board of Nursing, including certification for mandated screenings and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers (CPR/AED).

25. Improves personal performance and leadership skills through staff development opportunities, coursework, and/or professional associations to ensure continued district improvement.

26. Participates in the coordination and implementation of staff development for Health Services, and employee CPR program and statutory training.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Mentoring of Health Services staff. Orientation and assessment of new Health Services staff and substitute nurses. Direct the work of assigned Health Services Assistant and Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) if applicable.
