International School of Zug and Luzern (ISZL) is seeking a Substitute Teacher for the Primary School at the Zug Campus to cover classes EY1–Gr 5 when teachers are absent. The role is offered on an as-needed basis and is not a formal contract.

Days and times may vary and are not guaranteed. You will follow daily plans, support students with diverse needs, supervise outdoor activities and the lunchroom, and provide feedback to teachers.

• Closely follow the plans/guide for the day provided by the teacher.
• Provide appropriate feedback to students about their learning.
• Explain any changes to routines to students and maintain consistency.
• Provide feedback to the teacher about the day’s learning and any concerns.
• Communicate with parents in general terms, referring questions to the teacher.
• Support students and staff in outdoor learning and during lunchroom supervision.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Primary Principal or Assistant Principals.

General Description

The position requires the candidate to provide necessary cover for teachers of all classes in the Primary School at our Zug Campus (EY1 – Gr 5 including specialist lessons). The Substitute Teacher for the Primary School works in collaboration with the Assistant Principals to provide cover for teachers who may be absent due to illness or attending Professional Development. Substitute teachers are not hired under a formal contract, and work is offered on an as‑needed basis. Days and times of work may vary and are not guaranteed.

The Substitute Teacher for the Primary School is expected to:

Main Responsibilities

• Provide cover for teachers or Assistant Teachers in the Primary School under the direction of the Assistant Principals.
• Be aware of those students with particular medical needs, learning needs (EAL, LS) or behavioral needs
• Closely follow the plans/guide for the day provided by the teacher
• Provide appropriate feedback to students about their learning
• Be mindful of the routines and structures used by the teacher and explain any changes to the routine to students
• Provide feedback for the teacher about the day’s learning, about the students and share any potential cause for concern
• Communicate in general terms to parents, referring any questions or concerns to the teacher
• Support students and faculty in outdoor learning and lunchroom supervision
• Other duties as assigned by the Primary Principal or Assistant Principals

Required and Preferred Qualifications

• Qualified and experienced teacher preferably across a range of ages
• Excellent organizational skills
• Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills in English
• Ability to work effectively in a team as well as to show initiative and work independently
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, function effectively under pressure and be flexible
• A pleasant and friendly personality
• Candidates must have a Swiss or EU passport/valid Swiss work permit (or be approved for a Swiss work visa)

Compensation

Compensation for this position will be commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and is very competitive globally.
