EPFL's School of Engineering (STI) seeks a Systems Engineer to advance infrastructure engineering, automation, and AI-powered tooling across Linux, Windows, and storage services. You will drive standardized deployment workflows, ensure security, and collaborate with researchers and engineers to deliver reliable IT services.

You will contribute to self-service capabilities, VMs and HPC provisioning, and integration of AI into daily workflows while maintaining compliance and data protection.

Qualifications

• Degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 5 years hands-on system or infrastructure engineering experience in complex IT environments.
• Fluent in French and English (minimum level B2 in both).
• Hands-on DevOps, Infrastructure as Code, and automated provisioning experience.
• Strong programming/scripting: Python, shell, PowerShell.
• Proficient in Linux and Windows server environments.
• Experience with virtualization, containers, IT governance, security and compliance.
• Experience with enterprise storage, data management, AD, and storage protocols (NFS/SMB).
• Experience with data centre infrastructure and hardware lifecycle operations.
• Configuration management and CI/CD for infra and applications.
• Strong networking knowledge (TCP/IP, SSL, DNS, routing, firewalls).
• Team player with cross-team collaboration.
• Methodical, detail-oriented in operating complex IT systems.

Responsabilités

• Apply SRE practices to improve reliability and observability, using automation and clear service ownership.
• Act as escalation point for complex incidents including IT security and compliance inquiries.
• Guide STI AdminITs on IT best practices and urgent incidents.
• Serve as technical reference for accreditation and access control within the School of Engineering.
• Design reusable automated infrastructure services and standardised provisioning workflows for self-service access.
• Strengthen infrastructure security and resilience through vulnerability management and regular backups.
• Provision and manage storage resources and access for STI labs.
• Design and continuously improve IaC-driven deployment workflows with CI/CD.
• Provide expert consultation for sustainable, long-term infra solutions for STI units.
• Integrate AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate automation, while ensuring security and data protection.
