Job summary

Threema, the world’s secure messenger, seeks a Senior Rust Engineer to design and build backend services for messaging, presence, and end-to-end encryption. You’ll join a small team that values correctness, performance, and simplicity, writing production Rust, reviewing code, and shaping architecture from day one.

You’ll work on high-throughput, low-latency systems, own services end-to-end, and collaborate across teams in a hybrid work setup.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• At least 2 years writing Rust in production.
• Strong understanding of concurrency, memory management, and systems programming.
• Experience with distributed systems and high-throughput backends.
• Degree in computer science or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Design and build backend services in Rust for high-throughput messaging backend.
• Work on core infrastructure: queues, delivery guarantees, connections, storage.
• Debug and optimize under production load.
• Review code and mentor others on Rust patterns.
• Take ownership end-to-end from design to deployment.
