Job summary

Harmattan AI in Lausanne is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to own end-to-end mechanical architectures and assemblies for advanced autonomous defense systems. You will run non-linear explicit FEA, build precise CAD models, plan and execute lab and range tests, and translate results into manufacturable hardware, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and supporting field deployments.

Qualifications

• Background: B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical discipline.
• Simulation expertise: hands-on experience with non-linear explicit finite element analysis for high-velocity impacts/dynamic loading.
• Mechanical systems knowledge: deep understanding of hardware, structural mechanics, tolerances, thermal dissipation, dynamic load transfer.
• R&D range & lab testing: experience setting up, executing, and analyzing data from physical prototype testing and environmental tests.
• CAD & manufacturing: proficiency in CAD for complex assemblies and manufacturing processes (CNC, additive, injection).
• Drive & ownership: problem-solver who takes responsibility for hardware deliverables.

Responsibilities

• Run non-linear explicit finite element simulations to predict structural integrity and dynamic response.
• Create and maintain complex CAD models, housings, mechanisms, and drawings for production release.
• Write R&D test specs for environmental, drop, structural, and shock testing; manage lab setups and analyze sensor data.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to advise on constraints, payload optimization, and mechanical integration parameters.
• Conduct hazard analyses and safety evaluations for mechanical systems and interfaces.
• Document hardware performance guidelines and support production validation and customer demonstrations.
