Job summary

Algorized is seeking a Senior Functional Safety Engineer based in Etoy, Switzerland, or Campbell, CA, with an on-site requirement. You will architect safety envelope for people-sensing systems in robots and lead PLd/SIL2 certification across hardware, software, and customer integration.

The role blends systems and software engineering, requiring hands-on embedded code and experience with IEC 61508, ISO 13849, and SOTIF.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in safety-critical or embedded systems with 2–3 years in functional safety.
• MSc in CS, E/E or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience taking a product through a Notified Body certification from file to certificate — own, not just support; comfortable representing Algorized to auditors and leadership.
• Safety-first architectural instinct — design for failure and worst-case reasoning; maintain safe-state control.
• Familiarity with IEC 61508, ISO 13849, ISO 21448 (SOTIF) or similar.
• Hands-on interfac­ing with hardware I/O/fieldbuses in safety-critical domains.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end safety certification process: gap analysis, body selection/management, technical file, type testing, certificate.
• Audit vendor hardware safety manuals to confirm certified scope supports the system.
• Architect safety envelope for people-sensing software and its safe I/O/fieldbus integration.
• Build and maintain our safety management system and software safety lifecycle.
• Produce quantitative safety case (FMEDA, diagnostic coverage, failure-rate analysis) and full documentation.
• Define safety goals/concepts/cases in collaboration with algorithms, software and product teams.
• Support integration, commissioning, and maintenance of safety systems, including travel.
