Job summary

IBM Switzerland is seeking an experienced Senior Cybersecurity Architect to join our Delivery Center in Zürich. Your role and responsibilities

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Cybersecurity Architect to join our cybersecurity team and play a key role in shaping and strengthening our security architecture.

In this role, you will define and evolve secure architecture principles, provide security guidance across technology and business initiatives, and ensure that security is embedded into the design of applications, platforms, infrastructure, and digital solutions from the outset.

You will work closely with technology leaders, architects, engineering teams, risk and compliance functions, and business stakeholders to translate security requirements into practical, scalable solutions.

• Define and maintain cybersecurity architecture principles, standards, patterns, and reference architectures
• Design secure architectures across cloud, on-premises, applications, networks, data, and identity
• Provide security architecture guidance for major technology projects and transformation initiatives

• Partner with Enterprise, Solution, and Technical Architects to embed security by design

• Support threat modelling, risk assessments, and security design decisions
• Ensure alignment with relevant security policies, regulatory requirements and industry standards
• Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the organization's cybersecurity strategy
• Communicate complex security concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Act as a trusted security advisor to senior technology and business leaders

Required technical and professional expertise

• Significant experience in cybersecurity architecture, security engineering, or a related field
• Strong understanding of enterprise security architecture and security-by-design principles
• Proven experience designing security solutions across cloud and hybrid environments
• Strong knowledge of areas such as:
• Identity & Access Management / IAM
• Network and application security
• Cloud security
• Data protection and encryption
• Endpoint and infrastructure security
• Security monitoring and incident response
• Zero Trust architecture
• Experience with security frameworks and standards such as NIST, ISO 27001, CIS, or SABSA
• Ability to translate business and technology requirements into pragmatic security architectures
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and risk-management skills
• Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills
• Ability to influence decisions across teams without relying solely on formal authority
• Experience working in complex, international, or highly regulated environments is a plus Swiss or EU nationality or valid Swiss work permit.
• Fluent in German and English (written & spoken).

Preferred technical and professional experience

Data Security Governance Knowledge: Experience with data security governance frameworks and regulatory requirements is beneficial for developing effective data security strategies and solutions.

Cloud Security Expertise: Familiarity with cloud security technologies and platforms can enhance the ability to analyze and resolve security incidents in cloud-based environments.

Cybersecurity Frameworks Understanding: Knowledge of industry-recognized cybersecurity frameworks can inform the development of comprehensive remediation plans and roadmaps.
