Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for GMP manufacturing campaigns across upstream and downstream bioprocessing.
• Support batch execution through data analysis, troubleshooting and process monitoring.
• Lead risk assessments and ensure follow-up actions are implemented.
• Maintain GMP documentation and ensure inspection readiness.
• Identify and implement process/equipment/workflow improvements with stakeholders.
• Deliver product-specific training and develop employees' technical skills.

Senior Bioprocess Engineer (m/f/d) 80%-100% Location: Visp, Switzerland The actual location of this job is in Visp, Switzerland. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates and their families, if needed. Join Lonza's Biotechnology Manufacturing team in Visp and contribute to the delivery of innovative therapies through world-class GMP manufacturing. As a Senior Bioprocess Engineer, you will provide technical leadership for manufacturing campaigns, drive process improvements, and support the development of both manufacturing processes and people in a highly collaborative environment. This is a fully site-based role. Working together in person supports close, real-time collaboration and the technical precision needed to manufacture medicines to the highest quality and safety standards.

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership and oversight for GMP manufacturing campaigns across upstream and downstream bioprocessing operations.
• Support successful batch execution through data analysis, troubleshooting, process monitoring, and implementation of sustainable technical solutions.
• Lead and review risk assessments, ensuring follow-up actions are effectively implemented and monitored.
• Maintain high-quality GMP documentation and ensure manufacturing processes remain inspection-ready and compliant.
• Identify, evaluate, and implement improvements to processes, equipment, and workflows in close partnership with Manufacturing, MSAT, Engineering, and Quality stakeholders.
• Deliver product-specific training and contribute to the technical development of employees across the manufacturing organization.
• Act as a technical expert during audits, inspections, workshops, and cross-functional initiatives while coaching colleagues and sharing best practices.

What we are looking for

• Experience within pharmaceutical or biotechnology manufacturing environments, supported by a strong understanding of GMP requirements and regulated operations.
• Solid knowledge of biotechnological manufacturing processes, ideally including upstream processing (USP), downstream processing (DSP), or both.
• Experience with deviation investigations, risk assessments, process optimization, and GMP documentation practices.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound technical decisions in a fast-paced production environment.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate across functions, influence stakeholders, and support technical leadership initiatives.
• Excellent communication, coaching, and training skills, with fluency in both German and English.
• Degree in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related scientific or technical discipline, or equivalent experience in biopharmaceutical manufacturing.
