Job summary

Lonza in Visp, Switzerland, seeks a Senior Bioprocess Engineer (m/w/d) 80%-100% to provide technical leadership for GMP manufacturing campaigns across upstream and downstream bioprocessing. This is a fully site-based role to ensure high-quality and compliant production.

You will drive process improvements, oversee campaigns, and mentor colleagues in a highly collaborative environment, with relocation assistance available for eligible candidates and families.

Qualifications

• GMP manufacturing experience in pharma/biotech environments.
• Solid knowledge of biotechnological manufacturing processes (USP/DSP).
• Experience with deviation investigations, risk assessments and GMP documentation practices.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for fast-paced production.
• Ability to collaborate across functions and support technical leadership initiatives.
• Excellent communication, coaching and training skills; fluency in German and English.
• Degree in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Bioinformatics or related field.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for GMP manufacturing campaigns across upstream and downstream bioprocessing operations.
• Support successful batch execution through data analysis, troubleshooting, process monitoring, and implementation of sustainable technical solutions.
• Lead and review risk assessments; ensure follow-up actions are implemented and monitored.
• Maintain high-quality GMP documentation and ensure manufacturing processes remain inspection-ready and compliant.
• Identify, evaluate, and implement process, equipment and workflow improvements in partnership with Manufacturing, MSAT, Engineering and Quality.
• Deliver product-specific training and contribute to technical development of employees.
• Act as technical expert during audits, inspections, and cross-functional initiatives while coaching colleagues and sharing best practices.

Join Lonza's Biotechnology Manufacturing team in Visp and contribute to the delivery of innovative therapies through world-class GMP manufacturing. As a Senior Bioprocess Engineer, you will provide technical leadership for manufacturing campaigns, drive process improvements, and support the development of both manufacturing processes and people in a highly collaborative environment.

This is a fully site-based role. Working together in person supports close, real-time collaboration and the technical precision needed to manufacture medicines to the highest quality and safety standards.

What we are looking for

• Experience within pharmaceutical or biotechnology manufacturing environments, supported by a strong understanding of GMP requirements and regulated operations.
• Solid knowledge of biotechnological manufacturing processes, ideally including upstream processing (USP), downstream processing (DSP), or both.
• Experience with deviation investigations, risk assessments, process optimization, and GMP documentation practices.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound technical decisions in a fast-paced production environment.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate across functions, influence stakeholders, and support technical leadership initiatives.
• Excellent communication, coaching, and training skills, with fluency in both German and English.
• Degree in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related scientific or technical discipline, or equivalent experience in biopharmaceutical manufacturing.
