Semiconductor Lab Test Engineer: Reliability & R&D

Job summary

VAT Group is seeking a Lab Engineer to join the Control Valve R&D team in our SEMI unit in Switzerland. You will design, execute and improve testing activities for vacuum control valves and components, coordinating with development, design and quality teams.

You will perform endurance and reliability tests, develop test procedures and analyze data to drive product improvements, reporting findings to cross-functional teams and supporting qualification efforts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or technical diploma required in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, electrical engineering or related field.
• Experience in product testing, validation and reliability testing in a technical lab setting.
• Solid understanding of control valve technology and closed-loop control systems.
• Strong knowledge of electric motors, servo drives, actuators and motion control systems.
• Ability to conduct failure analysis and root-cause investigations.
• Familiarity with measurement equipment, sensors and data acquisition systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specs.
• Knowledge of vacuum technology and semiconductor equipment is a plus.
• Knowledge of statistical data analysis and reliability assessment is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Perform lifetime, endurance and reliability testing of vacuum control valves for semiconductor applications.
• Conduct functional, verification and validation testing of valve assemblies and subsystems.
• Develop and optimize test procedures to support R&D projects and product qualification.
• Analyze test data to evaluate performance and durability, identify improvements.
• Investigate failures and determine root causes through systematic troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with R&D, mechanical, electrical engineering, quality and product management to support development.
• Prepare test reports, technical docs and presentations for cross-functional teams.
• Maintain and improve laboratory equipment, test benches and measurement systems.
