Zusammenfassung

CERN is seeking a Health, Safety and Environment Engineer to contribute to safety across its fixed target experimental areas. The role involves evaluating safety requirements, mitigating risks, and authorising activities through rigorous safety evaluations and permits.

The position requires a Master’s degree or equivalent in a related field, plus experience in safety engineering, audits, and incident analysis within complex facilities.

Functions:
  • Evaluate safety requirements and implement risk mitigation strategies for activities, accelerator and beam operation and large-scale projects.
  • Assess compliance of installations, laboratories and workshops through safety audits, inspections and testing.
  • Authorise activities through safety evaluations and the issuance of safety permits, ensuring CERN's safety rules are met.
  • Provide training and promote awareness on safety-related matters, ensuring best practices are understood and applied.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of CERN's safety- and quality management, including documentation.
Education and Qualification
  • Master's Degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Nuclear Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Aerospace Engineering, Process Engineering or a related field.
Experience:

Demonstrated experience in:

  • Safety engineering, risk evaluation and licensing process in complex technical environments such as research facilities or large-scale engineering projects.
  • Writing documentation and quality management for regulated industry.
  • Experience in conducting inspections and incident analyses and their follow-up.
  • Liaison with stakeholders, fostering a strong safety culture through training and communication.
Strong assets but not essential
  • Experience or knowledge in Electrical Safety.
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary and diverse environment.
Technical competencies:
  • Occupational safety and risk management: including hazard identification and analysis, risk assessment and compensatory measures definition.
  • Knowledge of regulations in matters of operational and radiological safety.
  • Information and document management in the domain of safety documentation.
  • Knowledge of techniques for incident analysis.
Behavioural competencies:
  • Demonstrating Accountability: standing up for own opinion and actions with well substantiated arguments.
  • Managing Self: working well autonomously; taking on activities and tasks without prompting.
  • Achieving Results: defining clear objectives, milestones and deliverables before initiating work/ project.
  • Communicating Effectively: delivering presentations in a structured and clear way; adjusting style and content to the audience; responding calmly and confidently to questions.
  • Working in Teams: building and maintaining constructive and effective work relationships.
Language skills:
  • Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.
