Job summary

TotalEnergies Front Innovation Tools (FIT) team in Geneva seeks a quantitative analyst to build models and digital tools for Oil and Gas trading desks on the trading floor. You will work with market analysis, risk, and IT, using Python/C++ and AI tooling, contributing to dashboards, pricing models, and risk monitoring in a fast-paced environment.

This role offers exposure to cross-disciplinary projects, continuous integration, and opportunities to influence energy trading technology.

Qualifications

• You are graduated from a quantitative Master or an engineering school with majors in Mathematics, Physics, Data Engineering or Quantitative Finance.
• Experience in large IT projects using continuous integration tools such as TFS or AWS is a plus.
• You have worked in python or C++ and enjoy programming.
• Good usage of AI tools used in coding such as Claude Code would be a plus.
• Previous experience on a trading floor or in the commodities market would be a plus.
• You have good communication skills, a can-do attitude and proactively take initiatives
• You know how to work in an evolving environment where pressure and urgency are daily occurrences

TotalEnergies has developed a strong expertise in oil, biofuels, natural gas and electricity trading. Trading entities are based in Geneva, Paris, Dubai, Athens, Houston and Singapore.
TotalEnergies installed its European trading hub across in Geneva, which now bring together very large teams around trading activities: TotalEnergies Trading & Shipping (T&S) and TotalEnergies Gas and Power (TGP).

You will be part of the FIT team, a team of 9 members, sitting on the trading floor. The FIT team is responsible for the development and delivery of models and digital tools for the Oil and Gas trading desks. It is the entry point for all trading desks, whether they are physical or paper and works closely with the market analysis, risk departments and IT. FIT team is part of a global department encompassing all market analysis and modelling on power, gas and oil markets. The topics, FIT team covers are the following:

• Option pricing models . Use the adequate volatility models to be able to price all type of options available on the financial markets. Work on fitting models and regularly update the central system with the market values.
• Structuring . Provide adequate financial products together with marketing based on clients’ needs. Analyse the risks of various payoffs. Detect optionalities in physical assets or physical transactions.
• Dashboarding . Provide traders with visual tools that enable them to synthesize their risk, view live market prices and/or simulate their position.
• Credit risk monitoring . Measure the potential risk taken when trading derivatives instruments with counterparts with which there is no CSA agreement. Measure the return on risk taken with these counterparts.
• Logistics Optimisation . Blending tools, automatic update of tank levels, cargo simulation.
• CICD . Continuous maintenance of our IT Ecosystem. Mastery of deployment tools, work in coordination with Cyber, Infra …

The tools developed by the team are used daily by traders and maintained by FIT. A strong understanding of our architecture, a genuine interest in IT topics and a commitment to users’ needs are essential to succeed in the team. FIT works closely with the DDIT department and with a dedicated DDIT-FO team. Key IT challenges for the coming year include integrating AI agents into online tools and addressing cybersecurity requirements.

The main programming languages used are Python, C++ and VBA. Depending on users’ needs, the tools delivered to traders range from Excel spreadsheets to complex web applications.

The trading floor is a high pace, challenging environment, requiring agility, sharpness and rigour. Good communication, teamwork, multi-tasking are also essential skills.
