Zusammenfassung

Destinus seeks a Propellant Engineer to lead the development, formulation, and characterization of solid rocket propellants and related materials. This hands-on role blends materials science with process development to deliver flight-ready propulsion materials.

You will define test methods, document processes, and work across propulsion, structures, and manufacturing teams to ensure robust, high-performance materials for motor designs. English fluency required; German a plus.

Qualifikationen

  • BSc./MSc. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in solid rocket propellant development or closely related polymer/composite material systems.
  • Experience with propellant formulation, mixing, casting, and curing processes.
  • Strong understanding of polymer-bonded systems, composite materials, and viscoelastic behaviour.
  • Experience defining and conducting material characterization programs, including mechanical, thermal, and aging testing.
  • Familiarity with establishing standard operating procedures and structured development processes.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to translate material data into engineering decisions.
  • Strong documentation discipline and ability to work in a safety-critical environment.
  • Ability to work hands-on in laboratory and pilot-scale environments.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Fluency in English required; German is a plus.

Aufgaben

  • Develop and lead solid rocket propellant formulations, balancing performance, properties, stability, and manufacturability.
  • Lead lab-scale mixing, casting, curing, and post-processing with safety and quality standards.
  • Define and implement characterization methodologies for propellant materials (mechanical, thermal, rheological, ballistic, aging).
  • Establish test procedures, acceptance criteria, and data analysis for propellant and TPS materials.
  • Support process parameter definition and QC for propellant and TPS manufacturing (mixing, degassing, casting, curing, storage).
  • Analyze formulation trade-offs and drive performance, robustness, and reproducibility improvements.
  • Correlate material properties with motor performance and environmental conditions.
  • Lead or support investigation of anomalies, aging effects, or deviations; drive root-cause actions.
  • Prepare detailed documentation: formulation records, process specs, reports, and development plans.
  • Collaborate with propulsion, structures, manufacturing, and test teams for integration of materials into motor designs.
  • Contribute to long-term tech roadmaps for advanced propellant systems.
