Job summary

EH Energy Engineering in Nyon, Switzerland, is seeking a Functional Safety Engineer to embed safety into fuel cell systems and lead hazard analyses across hardware, software, and controls. The role requires full-time, on-site presence with relocation to Switzerland.

You will drive safety analyses, derive and allocate safety requirements, and support certification with notified bodies and customers, fostering a strong safety culture across teams.

Qualifications

• BSc/MSc in electrical/electronic/mechatronic/control or safety engineering is mandatory.
• 3–5 years of functional safety experience in industrial, energy or hydrogen systems.
• Working knowledge of IEC 61508, ISO 13849, ISO 26262 and/or IEC 62061.
• Hands-on with HARA, FMEA/FMEDA, FTA and safety requirements engineering.
• Understanding of safety-related hardware, embedded software and control architectures.
• Hydrogen, high-voltage or pressure system safety knowledge is a strong plus.
• Excellent spoken and written English; French or German is a plus.
• Functional safety certification (e.g. TÜV FSEng) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own the functional safety lifecycle for fuel cell systems from concept to release.
• Lead hazard and risk analyses (HARA, HAZOP, FMEA/FMEDA, FTA) and define safety goals.
• Derive safety requirements and concepts for hardware, software and controls.
• Define/verify safety mechanisms, diagnostics and safe states with controls and embedded teams.
• Perform safety analyses and calculations (SIL/PL/ASIL, metrics, PFH/PFD).
• Compile safety cases and safety plans for certification.
• Interface with notified bodies, certification authorities and customers on safety topics.
• Promote a strong safety culture and coach teams on functional safety practices.

To help achieve our vision of a decarbonised future we are seeking a Functional Safety Engineer to embed safety into our fuel cell systems, leading hazard analysis and safety engineering across hardware, software and controls to ensure our products are safe, compliant and certifiable.

This role requires full-time, on-site presence at our Nyon, Switzerland office. We’re not able to offer remote or hybrid arrangements, so candidates should be prepared to relocate.

Key Responsibilities:

Skills and Experience Required:

• BSc/MSc in electrical, electronic, mechatronic, control or safety engineering is mandatory
• Minimum 3-5 years of functional safety experience in industrial, energy or hydrogen systems
• Working knowledge of safety standards (ex. IEC 61508, ISO 13849, ISO 26262 and/or IEC 62061)
• Hands-on experience with HARA, FMEA/FMEDA, FTA and safety requirements engineering
• Understanding of safety-related hardware, embedded software and control architectures
• Familiarity with hydrogen, high-voltage or pressure system safety is a strong plus
• Team player able to work autonomously with internal and external experts
• Excellent spoken and written English is mandatory; French/German is a plus
• Functional safety certification (e.g. TÜV FSEng) is a plus
