Job summary

ETH Zurich's D-ITET invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Embedded Hardware, FPGA, Edge AI and Smart Sensors. The position focuses on building complete embedded systems, from sensor selection to FPGA/SoC implementation, firmware, debugging, and deployment of signal processing and ML algorithms.

A significant teaching load includes supervising courses and student projects in embedded systems, FPGA design, and machine learning on microcontrollers.

Qualifications

• This role requires a strong hands-on embedded hardware background with FPGA experience.
• PhD in Electrical Engineering or closely related field is required.
• Experience in FPGA design, HDL, and complete embedded systems development is essential.
• Experience with sensor/embedded platform integration and real-time processing is preferred.
• Ability or interest in teaching and supervising students is important.
• Open European project coordination and proposal experience is advantageous.
• Strong publication record related to embedded systems or Edge AI is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Teach embedded systems, FPGA-based design, and ML on microcontrollers.
• Supervise Bachelor, Master, and PhD student projects.
• Coordinate laboratory equipment, prototyping tools, and infrastructure.
• Contribute to European and national research proposals and project work packages.
• Develop and validate hardware prototypes from concept to working systems.
