Zusammenfassung

The Doctoral Position in contact mechanics of architected interfaces at ETH Zurich invites applications from highly motivated candidates in solid mechanics and computational modeling. You will investigate how local contact interactions in architected materials shape macroscopic interface response using physics-based numerical modeling and theory.

Qualifikationen

MSc in mechanics, physics, engineering, or related field.
Background in mechanics, applied physics, computational mechanics, or computational science.
Experience implementing scientific code and validating results against reference data.
Proficiency in Python and using version control systems.

Aufgaben

Conduct computational and theoretical investigations of local contact interactions in architected materials.
Connect cell-scale mechanics with multiscale/rough-surface contact mechanics to describe architected interfaces.
Develop and use numerical lattice-material models to study contact behavior.
Analyze how architecture, materials, and length scales affect contact area, pressure distributions, interface stiffness and load transmission.
Seek homogenized descriptions linking microscopic to macroscopic behavior.
