Novelis Sierre in Switzerland is seeking a Metallurgy Modeling Scientist to develop an Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) framework and predictive microstructure models for industrial-scale applications.

Ideal candidates hold a Master’s in Materials Science or related field (PhD preferred) with strong physical metallurgy knowledge; proficiency in Python/MATLAB and tools like VPSC, DAMASK, CP-FEM is a plus. Fluency in English; French is an advantage.

Vos responsabilités

• Développer un cadre d-ingénierie computationnelle intégrée des matériaux (ICME), combinant des modèles basés sur la physique, des approches fondées sur les données et des outils numériques pour des applications à l-échelle industrielle.
• Traduire les connaissances relatives aux alliages d-aluminium, à la métallurgie, au laminage et aux procédés de finition en modèles prédictifs de microstructure et de performance permettant le développement virtuel de procédés et de produits.
• Collaborer avec les sites de production afin de garantir une adoption réussie et la concrétisation de la valeur ajoutée pour l-entreprise.

• Translate aluminium alloy, metallurgy, rolling and finishing process knowledge into predictive microstructure and performance models that enable virtual process and product development.
• Collaborate with manufacturing sites, ensuring successful adoption and business value realization.

How to convince us

• Master's degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Computational Engineering, or a related field; PhD preferred.
• Strong expertise in physical metallurgy, with deep knowledge of texture evolution, recrystallization and precipitation phenomena
• Experience with computational materials engineering approaches and modelling tools such as VPSC, DAMASK, CP-FEM
• Proficiency in scientific programming and data analysis (e.g. Python, MATLAB or similar).
• Ability to bridge the gap between advanced materials science and industrial application by communicating complex technical concepts clearly across all organizational levels.

Location Profile

Novelis- Sierre is located in the Valais Switzerland employing around 550 people. It mainly focuses on production of aluminium sheet for the automotive market covering the entire process from casting to finishing. The plant also hosts a world-leading Research & Innovation Center specialized in the development of new automotive sheet alloys surface treatment and joining technologies. In Feburary 2022 together with research institutions and a local energy provider Novelis founded the Net Zero Lab Valais to develop carbon-neutral solutions for aluminium manufacturing. The lab focuses on identifying and implementing innovative solutions to neutralize the carbon footprint of Novelis- manufacturing operations and neighboring communities starting in Sierre. The Sierre plant supports its community through direct sponsorship of many annual events promoting education sports and culture.
