Our Company

Alpiq is one of Switzerland’s leading electricity producers and a key energy services provider across Europe. Headquartered in Lausanne and powered by a strong portfolio of hydropower, nuclear, and renewable energy sources, we’re all about impact, for the climate, for people, and for the security of supply.

More than 1,300 colleagues from nearly 60 nationalities bring their energy to a shared purpose: Together for a better climate and an improved security of supply.

We work in a values-driven culture shaped by trust, curiosity, and respect. Our 4 company values have been co-created with our employees and are embedded in everything we do as a company:

“We are ALP1Q “- reflects our team spirit

“We learn and grow together” - we have courage

“We share the steering wheel” - we take ownership

“We focus on the outcome” - your impact matters

At Alpiq, your energy matters!

The Opportunity

Join Alpiq's Green Power Business Development team and support renewable energy and flexibility investments across Europe, including battery storage, pumped-storage hydropower and renewable generation. Reporting to the Head of Business Development, you will work on live opportunities with meaningful responsibility from the start.

The internship lasts 3 to 6 months, with a strong preference for 6 months. Following successful completion, a separate future full-time opportunity may be available, subject to business needs and an available position.

Your Main Responsibilities

  • Evaluate investment and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) opportunities across European energy markets.

  • Build and review financial models, discounted cash flow valuations, investment cases and sensitivities.

  • Analyze markets, technologies, regulation and revenue models, including merchant exposure and contracted revenues.

  • Support project development, due diligence, transaction structuring and negotiation preparation.

  • Prepare concise recommendations and materials for senior-management and investment decisions.

  • Coordinate with M&A, finance, trading, engineering, legal and local project teams; engage with advisers, developers and investors.

  • Own selected analyses and workstreams, track actions and milestones, and follow through on deliverables.

Your profile

  • Currently completing a leading MBA program, with strong analytical, financial-modeling and problem-solving skills.

  • Previous experience in M&A, investment banking, private equity, transaction advisory or corporate development is highly valued.

  • Experience in energy, utilities, infrastructure or energy markets is an advantage.

  • Excellent command of Excel and PowerPoint, with the ability to communicate complex topics clearly.

  • Full professional fluency in English; an additional European language, particularly French, German, Italian or Spanish, is strongly preferred.

  • Eligible to work in Switzerland and willing to travel across Europe.

What Matters Most

Attitude and mindset are paramount. You are curious, pragmatic and eager to learn. You take ownership, deliver on commitments and challenge assumptions constructively. You enjoy working across cultures and functions, combine ambition with a low-ego approach, and contribute to a positive, inclusive team environment.

We focus on outcomes, share the steering wheel and encourage curiosity. Different perspectives are welcome. Candidates are encouraged to apply even if they do not meet every requirement: skills can be developed, while motivation and the right mindset are essential.

What We Offer

Direct exposure to live European energy investments and transactions; close interaction with senior management and multidisciplinary teams; meaningful responsibility and a steep learning curve across technologies, markets and transaction structures.
