Zusammenfassung

Paul Scherrer Institute seeks a Low-level RF-Engineer to advance control strategies for multi-bunch RF structures and validate concepts on SwissFEL. The role emphasizes modeling, automation, and integration of hardware, firmware, and software within a collaborative RF Systems environment.

Applicants should have MSc/PhD in a relevant field, strong control theory background, Linux/Python/MATLAB skills, and English proficiency. On-site work at Villigen is expected.

Qualifikationen

  • MSc or PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Strong background in feedback control theory and automation of complex systems.
  • Foundational knowledge of beam dynamics in linear accelerators.
  • Experience with LLRF systems or EPICS-based control systems is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Linux environments and programming (e.g., Python, MATLAB); experience with FPGA firmware is a plus.
  • Familiarity with system and/or software engineering practices is advantageous.
  • Excellent command of English.

Aufgaben

  • Design and develop advanced control algorithms for multi-bunch operation in travelling-wave RF structures, with a focus on 4-bunch schemes for FCC-ee and experimental validation using 2-bunch configurations at SwissFEL
  • Modeling and simulation of RF systems and beam acceleration to support control strategy development and operational studies
  • Create automation tools to efficiently configure, optimize, and stabilize multi-bunch beam operation
  • Contribute to the systems engineering of LLRF systems, translating user requirements into integrated hardware, firmware, and software architecture
  • Support and gain hands-on experience in the operation and optimization of the SwissFEL LLRF system

The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. For our LLRF Group in the Section Radio Frequency we are looking for a

Your tasks

Your profile
