Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Switzerland seeks a Scientist (Tenure Track) to contribute to the Diavolezza endstation at SwissFEL. You will advance spectroscopic instrumentation, mentor PhD students and support transitions to regular user operation.
The role requires a PhD in physics/chemistry, experience with time-resolved X-ray methods, and strong English/German communication. This is a tenure-track, 3-year initial appointment with opportunities for extension.
The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting-edge research in the fields of future technologies, energy and climate, health innovation and fundamentals of nature. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. Therefore, about one quarter of our staff are post-docs, post-graduates or apprentices. Altogether, PSI employs 2300 people.
The SwissFEL free-electron laser (FEL) at PSI produces tailored ultrashort X-ray pulses that enable new classes of experiments in physics, materials science, chemistry and biology. The Diavolezza group is responsible for the development and operation of the third soft-X-ray experimental endstation at SwissFEL, which is mainly devoted to further advancing attosecond and nonlinear FEL science.
