Job summary

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) seeks a Senior/Lead Data & Analytics Engineer in Basel, Switzerland. The role is a three-year fixed-term contract within the MED IT unit of the Monetary Economic Department, with relocation support and global eligibility.

You will design and deliver data analytics platforms and services, explore AI/ML, and collaborate with economists, data scientists, and statisticians across international organizations and central banks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification.
• Six+ years’ relevant experience in data/analytics engineering.
• Experience supervising juniors.
• Advanced ability to acquire, organise, protect, process data and extract insights.
• Proficiency with querying databases and BI tools.
• Experience modelling data flows and user stories.
• Ability to design architectures and develop software.
• Ability to plan and manage small projects.
• Ability to interpret and apply policies aligned to strategy.
• Strong stakeholder-management, communication and support skills.

Responsibilities

• Partner with MED stakeholders to define IT strategy and target architecture.
• Gather requirements and translate into IT solutions.
• Lead design and implementation of data analytics apps and services.
• Support official-statistics data collection and SDMx standards.
• Oversee data collection mechanisms and data quality.
• Apply advanced AI/ML methods to improve operations and processes.
• Provide technical guidance and end-user support.
• Support IT project and product management activities.
• Maintain stakeholder relationships and represent BIS externally when needed.
• Keep professional knowledge up-to-date in data engineering and industry best practice.
