Zusammenfassung

CERN seeks a researcher to lead the design and construction of an experimental setup to study beam-dust interactions in accelerator environments. You will conduct simulations and hands-on tests, validating models with collaborative experts in physics, vacuum, and machine protection.

The role requires a strong physics background, independent work and strong English communication, with a commitment to learn French. Hybrid work arrangement and a 24-month contract are offered.

Qualifikationen

  • Master's degree with 2–6 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • No CERN fellow or graduate contract previously.

Aufgaben

  • Design and implement a dedicated test stand to study beam-dust interactions.
  • Collaborate with beam physics, machine protection, and vacuum teams on cutting-edge research.
  • Develop physics models for charging and release of dust grains on surfaces.
  • Design and run experiments to validate theoretical models.
  • Investigate methods to produce and reproduce beam-dust interaction events.
  • Propose mitigation strategies to minimize dust-induced beam losses.
