Job summary

Exa is an applied AI lab that builds a search engine and API for AI models and agents. The Software Engineer, Knowledge Engine Query Engine will own the query engine that searches a very large knowledge graph across multiple retrieval backends.

The role requires deep experience in distributed databases, indexing, and query planning, with fluency in Go, Rust or C++. Expect work on latency profiling, performance tuning, and building scalable retrieval infrastructure for AI models and agents.

Qualifications

• Experience with distributed databases, search engines or storage systems.
• Strong knowledge of indexing, query planning and storage formats.
• Proficiency in Go, Rust or C++ and latency profiling at scale.

Responsibilities

• Own the query engine that searches a large knowledge graph across multiple backends.
• Profile and optimize queries to achieve low latency at high throughput.
• Contribute to retrieval infrastructure and work with vector, full-text, graph and geospatial indexes.
