Job summary
CERN in Switzerland seeks an experienced professional to reinstall and recommission the Resonance Ionisation Laser Ion Source (RILIS) for ion beam generation. You will install lasers, test pump lasers, and develop schemes to advance laser technology, with documentation for operation and on-call duties.
The role requires a solid background in laser systems, photonics, and lab automation, and offers onsite work with potential for contract extension and comprehensive CERN benefits.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in installation, commissioning and operation of complex laser systems.
- Strong background in experimental photonics, laser physics or optical instrumentation.
- Experience with laboratory automation, control systems and scientific software development.
- Experience preparing technical documentation and operational procedures.
Responsibilities
- Install the lasers and the required hardware and software to operate the RILIS on a 24/7 basis with automated beam stabilisation and monitoring.
- Test the new pump lasers.
- Develop new resonance ionisation schemes for moving RILIS towards a solid-state laser lab.
- Document the laser system with a detailed operational requirement specification.
- Participate in setup and operation of the laser ion source including on-call duties.
