Maybe you use Linux at home, experiment with new technologies in your spare time, build your own environments, write Bash scripts or simply find yourself opening a terminal when everyone else reaches for a GUI. If that sounds like you, this could be a fantastic next step.

We are supporting a highly respected and internationally recognised Swiss technology, science & innovation organisation in Zurich as they strengthen their internal IT team with a Junior Linux System Administrator.

This is a varied, hands-on position combining Linux system administration, server infrastructure, Bash scripting, automation and IT support.

You will join a small and experienced IT team and work closely with a Senior Linux Administrator, giving you the opportunity to develop your technical skills while gradually taking on greater responsibility.

What you will be working on

Your primary technical focus will be Linux and server infrastructure, while also contributing across a heterogeneous IT environment.

You will be involved in:

• Operating, maintaining and developing Linux server environments
• Bash scripting and automation of IT processes
• Supporting and developing server and infrastructure services
• Virtualisation and container technologies including Proxmox and Docker
• Storage technologies such as Ceph and S3
• Backup systems and infrastructure services
• Networking, web applications and databases
• Exposure to modern technologies and AI-related solutions
• Administration and support across Linux, macOS and Windows clients
• Providing hands-on IT support and technical advice to users
• Contributing to new infrastructure, automation and digitalisation projects
• Collaborating with other technical teams on IT projects

You will also have the opportunity to contribute ideas, explore new technologies and help develop practical, sustainable solutions rather than simply maintaining existing systems.

What we are looking for

This opportunity is particularly suited to someone at the beginning of their IT career, ideally with around 1–3 years of relevant professional experience.

Most importantly, we are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with Linux.

You should bring

• Completed Swiss IT / Computer Science education, such as an Informatiker/in EFZ, or a comparable qualification with a good understanding of the Swiss education environment
• Good practical knowledge of Linux system administration
• Experience with Bash scripting
• Genuine personal enthusiasm for Linux and technology — home labs, personal projects and experimentation outside work are very welcome
• Some professional experience within IT support, system administration or infrastructure
• Knowledge of technologies such as Docker and/or Proxmox would be advantageous
• Exposure to storage and backup technologies such as Ceph and S3 would be beneficial
• Knowledge of networking and/or web applications would be a plus
• Fluent German, together with the ability to understand Swiss German
• Good English communication skills
• A structured, curious and hands‑on approach to technology
• A collaborative personality who enjoys working within an international environment
• A genuine desire to continue learning and exploring new technologies

You don't need to be an expert in every technology listed above.

The key priorities are your Linux knowledge, Bash scripting experience, technical curiosity and genuine motivation to develop further within Linux systems and infrastructure.
