Job summary

EMD Group in Corsier-sur-Vevey seeks a motivated Master/Engineering student in biotechnology for a 6-month internship in Global Drug Substance Development. You will work with scientists to understand cell metabolism, develop a perfusion platform, and improve media formulations in bioreactors.

You will program robotic platforms to screen formulations, gain hands-on lab experience, and contribute to data analysis and reporting. English is required; French is a plus.

Qualifications

• Master/engineering student in biotechnology or related field.

• Good written and spoken English; French a plus; knowledge of Python is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Join Global Drug Substance Development group to support production of new biotherapeutics.
• Focus on understanding cell metabolism and developing a perfusion platform process.
• Develop and test new medium formulations in deep well plates/bioreactors (250 mL).
• Program and use robotic platforms to screen medium formulations and evaluate performance.
• Learn lab independence including cell thawing, expansion, and in-process control.
• Contribute to experimental design, data analysis, and project reporting.

Your role:

• As a member of the Global Drug Substance Development, you will work with a group of motivated scientists who are committed to developing and implementing solutions to support the production of new biological therapeutics.
• Within this group, your mission will focus on understanding cell metabolism and developing a perfusion platform process, especially medium improvement in deep well plates and/or bioreactors ranging from 250 mL.
• You will review the current state of knowledge in cell metabolism, medium development and propose/develop new chemical formulations for media, testing them for performance in deep well plates and/or bioreactors.
• You will program and use robotic platforms to perform screening of various medium formulations and evaluate their performance in cell culture.
• You will be trained to work independently in the lab, including cell thawing, cell expansion, working under laminar flow hoods, and in-process control.
• You will actively participate in experimental design. Additionally, you will analyze and present your data in project discussions and write a comprehensive report to conclude your internship.

Your profile:

• Master/engineer student in biotechnology or other related fields
• Highly motivated and autonomous
• Ability to conceptualize, solve complex challenges, and communicate about your project
• Great team spirit
• Previous experience in cell culture/aseptic handling is a plus
• Good written and oral knowledge in English, French is a plus
• Knowledge in Python is a plus
