The role focuses on mechanical design, test setups for vision/optical systems, and analytical reporting. Strong CAD, Linux, and Python/C++ skills are desired, with a hands-on research mindset.

• Develop and implement test setups in the laboratory for vision/optical system validation.
• Prepare, document, and operate optical characterization testbenches, ensuring repeatable and reliable procedures.
• Analyze measurement results and produce technical reports, including test procedures, results interpretation, and recommendations.

Your mission

The applied research and industrial activities conducted within the Edge AI and Vision section of CSEM are devoted to capture process and extract visual information from scenes.

Within this activity you will participate in the hardware design and testing of our demonstrators and test benches.

Help us grow and be more impactful! The “Edge AI and Vision” group of our “Integrated & Wireless Systems” Business Unit based in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, is currently looking for a Trainee in System Engineering for Vision applications.

Your Responsibilities

• Assist in the mechanical design of demonstrators and test benches and their assembly
• Assist in supplier sourcing for key components, supporting selection based on technical specs, availability, and cost
• Participate in burn-in tests (hard, electronics, firmware and software)for prototypes and public demonstrators (light sources, cameras, electronics, compute units, etc.)
• Develop and implement test setups in the laboratory for vision/optical system validation
• Prepare, document, and operate optical characterization testbenches, ensuring repeatable and reliable experimental procedures
• Analyze measurement results and produce technical reports, including test procedures, results interpretation, and recommendations

Your profile

Know-how

• 3D Modelling and CAD Design (SolidWorks).
• Degree in Micro-Engineering, Mechanical Engineering
• Experience on Linux embedded platforms
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, Linux
• Research Aptitude: demonstrated research experience through coursework or prior projects and show eagerness to engage in research activities and a willingness to learn and contribute to ongoing projects
• Academic Excellence: strong academic record, with a history of outstanding performance in relevant coursework
