Zusammenfassung

The University of Fribourg is seeking a System Engineer to ensure operation, maintenance and development of the HPC infrastructure and to contribute to IT services and AI platforms for teaching and research.

You will deploy and manage servers, Linux systems, storage, security and networking; enable virtualization and containers for research, support researchers and teachers, and produce technical documentation.

Qualifikationen

• Master's degree in computer science or equivalent.
• Experience in Linux system administration and scientific infrastructures.
• Skills in scripting (Python, Bash or equivalent).
• Experience or good knowledge of HPC environments, computing clusters and CPU/GPU resource management.
• Knowledge of virtualisation, containerisation technologies and computing environments for research.
• Interest in artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies.
• Ability to interact with researchers and teachers from various disciplines.
• Service-oriented, autonomous, analytical mindset and ability to work in a team.
• Fluency in French or German, with good knowledge of the other language, as well as proficiency in written and spoken English.

Aufgaben

• Ensure the operation, maintenance and development of the HPC infrastructure.
• Participate in the development of IT services and platforms dedicated to AI for teaching and research.
• Guarantee performance, stability, security and optimisation of computing resources for science and AI needs.
• Deploy, configure and maintain servers, Linux systems, scientific libraries and software for research activities.
• Administer storage systems, backups, quotas and high-performance networking.
• Define, implement and monitor security measures and data infrastructures.
• Support researchers and teaching teams in AI/ML usage.
• Contribute to development of services and platforms for AI research and teaching.
• Provide scientific and technical support for HPC/AI projects.
• Deploy and maintain virtualised environments, VMs, containers and notebooks for research.
• Collaborate with IT Services Directorate teams to ensure availability and performance of IT services.
• Participate in tech watch in scientific computing, AI and Linux infrastructures.
• Write and maintain technical and user documentation.
