Zusammenfassung

The Straw Lab at the University of Freiburg invites applications for a PhD student or postdoctoral researcher to study honey bee visual navigation. The project combines computational modeling with reinforcement learning and experimental neurobiology, in a multidisciplinary environment with access to advanced imaging and VR tools.

Two profiles are offered: PhD in RL and modeling, or Postdoctoral in neurobiology.

Qualifikationen

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Physics, Computational Neuroscience, or a related field.
• Experience in machine learning, including reinforcement learning, and in modeling.
• Experience in at least one of: computer vision, 3D reconstruction, neuroscience, or animal navigation.

Aufgaben

• Environmental reconstruction of bee habitat.
• Computational modeling of visual navigation in honey bees.
• Evaluation of robustness of honey bee visual processing for navigation.
• Use of insect-inspired reinforcement learning architecture based on mushroom bodies.
• Collaboration with experimental researchers and other scientists.
