Job summary

The UN Secretariat in Geneva seeks a Legal Officer to provide comprehensive legal research and drafting support on competition and consumer protection law, with emphasis on trade and development. You will assist in intergovernmental meetings, develop technical assistance, and backstop related activities.

The role requires an advanced degree in international law and at least five years of legal experience, including writing, analysis, and policy work in competitive frameworks.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in international law required; alternative with first-level degree plus 2 years' relevant experience.
• Minimum five years of progressive legal experience in analysis, research, and writing.
• Experience in competition and/or consumer protection laws and policies desirable.
• Strong legal drafting and research capabilities; ability to communicate and collaborate.

Responsibilities

• Conduct extensive legal research and analysis on competition and consumer protection law.
• Draft background papers, legislative texts, and teaching materials for stakeholders.
• Prepare agreements and contracts and assist in negotiations and dispute resolution.
• Support intergovernmental meetings and develop technical assistance programs.
• Provide guidance to junior staff and assist in administrative tasks.
