Aufgaben

  • Develop and maintain the Copper Environmental and Climate Strategy aligned to Group HSEC & HR objectives and climate commitments.
  • Establish environmental standards, governance frameworks, performance indicators and annual priorities across the Copper portfolio.
  • Ensure consistent implementation of environmental programs across operations and projects.
  • Drive continuous improvement in environmental stewardship and sustainable business practices.
  • Lead environmental and climate-related risk identification, assessment and mitigation activities across operations and projects.
  • Support compliance with corporate standards, regulatory obligations and external reporting requirements.
  • Oversee environmental monitoring, reporting and assurance programs.
  • Support response planning and remediation actions arising from audits, reviews and environmental incidents.
  • Lead greenhouse gas management and decarbonisation planning across the Copper Department.
  • Identify and evaluate emissions reduction opportunities and climate-related investments.
  • Support implementation of decarbonisation initiatives aligned to business priorities.
  • Drive climate adaptation and physical climate risk resilience programs across assets and projects.
  • Provide environmental input into business planning, project development and capital allocation decisions.
  • Evaluate environmental risks and opportunities associated with major projects and investments.
  • Support closure planning and long-term environmental stewardship initiatives.
  • Assist in prioritising environmental, climate resilience and decarbonisation expenditure across the portfolio.
  • Lead, coach and develop regional and asset-based environment teams.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and best-practice adoption across operations.
  • Build organisational capability in environmental management and climate risk awareness.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, performance improvement and environmental excellence.

Global Environment Manager

Department: Copper - HSEC & Human Rights
Location: Baar, Switzerland
Reports To: Copper Head of HSEC & Human Rights
Direct Reports: 2
Working Scheme: Office based with regular international travel to Copper assets.

Primary Purpose

To lead the development and execution of environmental and climate strategy across the Copper Department, ensuring compliance with corporate and external standards, minimising environmental impacts, advancing decarbonisation and strengthening resilience to physical climate risks across all copper operations and projects globally. The role provides strategic direction on environmental and climate-related risks and opportunities, oversees monitoring, reporting and assurance, and represents Copper in Group forums and external engagements.

Operating Context

The Global Environment Manager operates within a complex international portfolio of operating mines, processing facilities, smelters, development projects and joint ventures spanning multiple jurisdictions and regulatory environments. The role supports Copper operations across regions including South America, North America and Africa, where environmental performance, climate resilience, biodiversity stewardship, water management and decarbonisation are of strategic importance to long-term business success.

Key Accountabilities
Environmental Strategy & Governance
  • Develop and maintain the Copper Environmental and Climate Strategy aligned to Group HSEC & HR objectives and climate commitments.
  • Establish environmental standards, governance frameworks, performance indicators and annual priorities across the Copper portfolio.
