Job summary

Helbling Technik in Bern is seeking an experienced embedded software engineer to develop and deploy software on System-on-Modules, spanning bare-metal and RTOS, with SoMs from multiple providers. You will implement firmware and integrate connectivity stacks, while applying AI on embedded platforms and performing on-device inference.

You will collaborate closely with electronics, mechanical colleagues and customer teams, writing tests and documents. English fluency is required; German is a plus.

Qualifications

• BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• Minimum three years of embedded software experience.
• Strong C/C++ programming skills on embedded systems.
• Python programming skills.
• Practical experience with RTOS and/or bare-metal environments.
• Experience with embedded Linux (Yocto) on SoM platforms.
• Experience integrating connectivity stacks (BLE, Wi‑Fi, Zigbee/Thread).
• Hands-on experience applying AI on embedded platforms.
• Clear communicator across disciplines and with customers.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to embedded software architecture and design within multidisciplinary project teams.
• Implement firmware and software for microcontrollers and SoMs in bare-metal and RTOS environments.
• Work with SoMs from various providers, including embedded Linux.
• Integrate connectivity stacks (BLE, Wi‑Fi, Zigbee/Thread).
• Apply AI on embedded platforms, deploy on-device inference, and integrate vendor AI/NPU SDKs.
• Write and execute unit, integration, and system-level tests.
• Debug issues across hardware/software boundaries and perform root cause analysis.
• Prepare technical documentation and collaborate with customer engineering teams.
