Job summary

The Swiss Trade Union Confederation (USS) invites an Economist (80–100%) to join its central secretariat in Bern. You will drive economic policy files, develop positions, monitor legislation, and represent USS with Parliament, administration, and in the public sphere.

You will engage with international bodies and collaborate in a small team, applying quantitative methods and political economy expertise to defend workers' interests.

Qualifications

• Holds a university degree in political economy with several years of experience.

As a member of the USS central secretariat, you will be responsible for the USS's economic policy files. In this capacity, you will develop positions, closely monitor legislative and consultation procedures, and represent the USS on extra-parliamentary commissions, with Parliament and the administration, as well as in the public sphere. You may also represent the USS within international bodies.

You hold a university degree in political economy and have several years of professional experience. You possess in-depth knowledge of federal politics and the trade union world. You are familiar with working within organisational bodies and enjoy creating and maintaining professional networks.

Your solid expertise in political economy and extensive practical experience with quantitative methods enable you to promptly and confidently handle even complex economic issues. You quickly familiarise yourself with new topics and know how to convincingly defend the interests of employees. You are able to assert yourself and motivate others.

You are able to express yourself precisely and in a structured manner in French or German, with a good knowledge of the other language being required. Additionally, your command of English allows you to conduct negotiations within the framework of your international files.
