Job summary

Thomson Reuters Labs, the R&D arm of Thomson Reuters, is seeking a Director of Model Research & Development to steer the hands-on program for post-training and RL-driven AI models used in regulated workflows. You will lead expert teams, design data strategies, and oversee training/evaluation pipelines, publishing and guiding roadmap decisions.

Qualifications

• Hands-on depth in post-training and reinforcement learning, including RL in agentic, multi-step settings with tools.
• Personally shaped data selection, mixture design, synthetic-data generation, and evaluation design with measurable effects.
• Engineering depth in distributed training, data pipelines, and evaluation infrastructure.
• Track record of shipped models or open-source contributions or top conference publications.
• Experience leading a focused technical training/evaluation team.

Responsibilities

• Own post-training execution for Thomson's LLMs: supervised fine-tuning, preference optimization, RL with agents.
• Stand up and run online reinforcement-learning pipelines with experts in the loop.
• Own data selection, mixture optimization, synthetic data generation, evaluation design.
• Identify training issues early and determine corrective actions.
• Collaborate with infra and eval teams to keep pipelines reliable.
• Present findings to inform roadmap and prioritization.
