Job summary

World Meteorological Organization in Geneva seeks a Secretary of the Governing Bodies to lead the organization, conduct and follow-up of sessions of the World Meteorological Congress and Executive Council, guided by the Basic Documents and rules of procedure.

Reporting to the Secretary-General and coordinating with Executive Management, the role includes preparing briefing notes, speeches and documents, maintaining official correspondence and ensuring governance processes are followed with tact

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or equivalent in political science, diplomacy, management, or a related field.
• A first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
• At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience with governing bodies or related public administration.
• Experience in international or multilateral organizations is an advantage.
• Proven ability to draft high-quality reports and maintain neutrality.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Governing Bodies Secretariat and provide policy advice to the WMO President and Secretariat.
• Support decision-making and follow-up of decisions with effective communication.
• Ensure rules of procedure and basic texts are respected and supported in form and process.
• Prepare provisional agenda, explanatory memoranda, and documents for Congress and Executive Council.
• Prepare statutory documents for Congress and the Executive Council and coordinate submissions by departments.
• Assist the WMO President in sessions, including briefing notes and speeches, and help preside.
• Enhance governance procedures and ensure uniform application across bodies.
• Organize and manage sessions of the WMO Bureau and related committees and task forces.

Education
