Job summary

CERN invites applications for Detector Safety Physicist to join the ATLAS project. You will lead DSS testing, commissioning, and safety matrix design for new sub-detectors, while upgrading infrastructure for Run 4.

The role offers onsite work with a strong emphasis on multidisciplinary collaboration. Applicants should have graduate-level experience in applied physics, expertise with safety systems, and familiarity with SCADA environments.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree with 2–6 years experience.
  • PhD with up to 3 years experience.
  • Experience with safety systems and large-scale detectors is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead DSS testing and commissioning across subsystems.
  • Monitor cable installations for DSS communications.
  • Design safety matrices for new subsystems.
  • Improve monitoring in ATLAS galleries incl. water leak detection.
  • Upgrade central infrastructure in ATLAS galleries.
  • Participate in maintenance of fire, evacuation, gas, and ODH safety systems.
  • Report progress to ATLAS Safety and Technical Coordination teams.
