Job summary

CERN’s Technology Department, Machine Protection and Electrical Integrity (MPE) Group, develops software protecting accelerator equipment and ensuring safe operation of the LHC and its injector complex.

You will join a team of software engineers to design, develop and maintain reliable software, collaborating across disciplines to deliver robust solutions and contribute to continuous integration and testing efforts. Start date 01/04/2027; Contract duration 60 months; Grade 6.

Qualifications

• Solid software engineering experience with Java and/or C++.
• Experience designing, developing, testing and maintaining software throughout its lifecycle.
• Proficiency with version control, automated testing, CI/CD and delivery practices.
• Strong ability to translate complex requirements into robust, efficient software solutions.
• Master's Degree or equivalent in Computing, Physics or Engineering (or related field).
• English (spoken and written) required; French learning expected.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test and maintain software components interfacing with protection/interlock systems.
• Monitor deployed applications, investigate issues and improve reliability and maintainability.
• Collaborate with engineers and operations teams during commissioning, testing and operation.
• Translate user requirements into technical decisions and sustainable software solutions.
• Improve development workflows, automated testing, CI, and software quality; explore AI-assisted tools.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to colleagues and students.
