Business Process Owner - Financial Model

What we do

Since 1863, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has worked to preserve human dignity and relieve suffering caused by war and armed violence.

In collaboration with our Red Cross and Red Crescent partners around the world, we do everything we can to deliver life-saving aid, reconnect families and locate missing people – helping those who need it most, regardless of who they are and what side of the front line they are on.

We engage with authorities and armed forces on all sides, often confidentially, pressing for access to detainees to improve their living conditions and urging compliance with international humanitarian law to protect non-combatants, including from digital threats.

Purpose of the role

As Business Process Owner – financial model, you are the institutional reference point for financial master data and design support, analytical process and reporting, and support for donor reporting.

You support the governance of the related financial master data and referential data, maintain the underlying data model ensuring its consistency, accuracy, and completeness. You also own the design of the analytical process of the ICRC and oversee its implementation.

You work end-to-end across functions (Accounting, Logistics, fundraising, HR, FPA, SSCs), translating complex reporting requirements into clear processes and guidance that support sound financial reporting and decision-making.

This role is part of the wider Finance transformation and future End-to-End process design and will be key in strengthening the financial steering of the ICRC.

Main duties and responsibilities

Financial master data and referential data ownership

• Is functionally in charge of financial master data and referential data, both owned and co-owned by the position.
• Maintains and improves the underlying data model, ensuring its consistency, accuracy, and completeness.
• Masters' strategic business process modelling, traceability and quality management techniques applied to master and referential data.
• Defines, analyses and documents data requirements, and implements advanced strategies for gathering, reviewing and analyzing them.
• Acts as data steward within the organization's data governance framework for financial data domains (owned and co-owned by Finance division) under his/her responsibility.
• Manages requirements at project level to fulfil business needs related to data governance.
• Ensures data ownership, quality standards and traceability are upheld across systems and processes.
• Liaises with application managers in different métiers and SDT, ICT to align data governance practices.
• Ensures data quality checks are defined, implemented, and monitored throughout the financial model.

Analytical process and reporting

• Owns, designs and oversees the analytical process of the ICRC and supports the design of Cost and Management Accounting.
• Measures project and reporting performance using appropriate systems, tools and techniques.
• Keeps sight of the larger landscape without neglecting granular details while tracking the health of analytical and reporting activities and staying alert to risk.
• Suggests alternative technological solutions to current practices and prepares cost-efficient improvements.

Donor reporting support

• Supports donor reporting activities, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of data used (analytical).
• Contributes to the development of project scopes and objectives related to donor reporting, involving relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility.
• Develops detailed plans to track progress of donor reporting deliverables.
• Supports the design and continuous improvement of the financial model.
• Uses appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in scope, schedule and cost related to the financial model.
• Oversee automating tasks and processes within the unit concerned.
• Partner closely with FPA, Data and SSC teams to drive continuous improvement, accuracy, and execution efficiency.
• Work with application managers in different métiers at HQ and T&I
• Externally, interacts with external auditors and other entities on technical improvements.
• Act as a trusted advisor to the Head of Financial Architecture for technical guidance and interpretation of accounting standards.
• Engage with non-finance stakeholders by translating technical accounting into clear, actionable language.

Transformation & projects

• Contribute as a Finance subject‑matter expert to End-to-End process initiatives, particularly:
  • Financial model

• Drive and support change‑management activities within your scope, helping colleagues adapt to new ways of working.

Education and professional background

• Degree in accounting, finance, business administration, information technology, automation or equivalent.
• Fluent command of English (French is an asset).
• Computer proficiency – Structured Query Language (SQL), BI reporting tool requested; SharePoint required; ERP desired.
• Additional certification in Business Process Management and/or Business Improvement (e.g., Lean / Six Sigma Green or Black Belt) is an advantage.
• Typically, 10 to 12 years' professional experience, with a minimum of 2 years' experience in finances and data management.
• Knowledge of an integrated financial information system and its flows.
• Previous experience in non‑profit or non‑governmental organizations is a plus.
• Solid exposure to internal control frameworks, risk management, and audit (internal and/or external).
• Strong experience with modern ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or equivalent); experience with Oracle JDE / PeopleSoft is an asset.
• Experience in or with Shared Service Centres is an advantage.
• Experience in the humanitarian or non‑profit sector and/or operational field experience as a Finance & Administration manager is an asset.

Desired profile and skills

• Strong analytical and conceptual skills; comfortable working with complex estimates, assumptions, and judgmental areas.
• Ability to translate complex accounting and process topics into clear, accessible guidance for non‑finance stakeholders.
• Excellent stakeholder‑management skills; able to build trust, challenge constructively, and work across cultures and disciplines.
• Excellent command of English (spoken and written); French or other ICRC languages are an asset.
• Proficient user of Excel and other MS Office tools; ability to design and understand workflows and process maps.
