The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) is Switzerland’s largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences. In the Laboratory for Neutron Scattering and Imaging, Center for Neutron and Muon Sciences we seek a Beamline Scientist (Tenure Track) to lead the POLDI engineering diffractometer user program and advance instrument development.

You will mentor PhD students and postdocs, contribute to group strategy and funding, and perform independent research.

Qualifikationen

• PhD in material science, physics, engineering or related field.
• Strong research background in diffraction and engineering research.
• Excellent teamwork, stakeholder management and mentoring skills.
• Proficient English; knowledge of German is a plus.
• Experience with user support at large-scale research facilities and/or neutron instrumentation is an advantage.

Aufgaben

• Organize and run the user program on the engineering diffractometer POLDI, including industrial applications.
• Maintain and develop the instrument, also with respect to alternative use in imaging.
• Contribute to the strategic development of the group, including new research initiatives and funding acquisition.
• Perform independent research within the scientific scope of the group.
• Mentoring of PhD students and postdoctoral researchers.
