Job summary
Proxima Fusion in Zurich seeks an experienced automation engineer to architect the systems powering the world’s first commercial stellarator fusion plant. You will influence the design of production lines and automation concepts across magnet production, HTS technology and manufacturing.
You will build and optimize automation cells, run FAT at supplier sites, and collaborate with engineers and technicians to drive scalable, high‑precision production. A hands-on, proactive mindset is essential.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in mechanical, mechatronics or similar engineering field.
- Extensive robotics, automation and process monitoring in industrial settings.
- Hands-on production experience across welding, machining, assembly and bonding.
Responsibilities
- Advise on future line design and automation concepts.
- Define requirements for automation cells for different processes.
- Develop control strategies for new production lines.
- Build and commission automation cells, performing FAT at supplier sites.
- Identify and test manufacturing and in-process monitoring approaches.
- Design jigs and tools for magnet industrialised production.
- Support process development and prototyping with scalability in mind.
