Job summary

The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is seeking an Associate Veterinarian to lead day-to-day animal health activities including clinical medicine, surgery, and pathology within the Animal Health Centre. This full-time, safety-sensitive role reports to the Senior Manager, Animal Health and Welfare and requires strong teamwork and diagnostic skills.

Responsibilities include preventive care, on-call veterinary coverage, medical record keeping, and collaboration across departments to support

Qualifications

• Licensed ABVMA veterinarian with applicable license and Class 5 driver’s license.
• Minimum 3 years full-time zoological medicine experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays and on-call responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Execute preventive health care and vaccination programs for animals.
• Perform surgical, diagnostic, and emergency procedures with anesthesia and radiology support.
• Maintain complete medical records and monitor pathology programs.
• Serve as veterinary liaison for an assigned area and participate in welfare meetings.
• Provide 24/7 on-call duties for animal health coverage.
