Job summary

Cargojet Inc. is seeking a ground handling operator to safely operate equipment, manage package flow, and ensure timely freight build-up and breakdown. You will work in a safety-conscious environment, following all airport procedures and training requirements to support overnight air cargo operations.

The role requires physical effort, ability to lift up to 60 lbs, and readiness to work shifts including weekends and holidays as part of a dynamic team.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate all ground servicing equipment safely and properly.
• Report abnormalities in equipment or performance.
• Stay fluent with new equipment or procedures.
• Follow all airport procedures and instructions.
• Operate equipment for the duration of operation.
• Monitor equipment condition, fuel, and performance.
• Stay updated on equipment upgrades and policies.
• Lift packages up to 60 lbs repeatedly.
• Sort packages by destination and other parameters.
• Communicate counts and package details to Leads and Supervisors.
• Handle customer packages and freight with care.
• Adhere to safety and security protocols.
• Perform general housekeeping duties.
• Handle Dangerous Goods procedures as required.
• Meet tight freight build-up/breakdown deadlines as part of a team.
• Complete required training modules (WHMIS, SMS, DG, Hazard Prevention).

Primary Objective of the Position:

The chosen candidate will be responsible for operating all equipment in a safe and proper manner and reporting any damage or potential problems.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• To operate any/all ground servicing equipment.
• Report any abnormalities in equipment or equipment performance.
• Stay fluent and on any new equipment or procedures.
• Obey and operate according to all airport procedures.
• To operate any/all equipment for the duration of operation.
• Responsible for any/all equipment. (Condition, fuel, performance).
• Stay up to date on any equipment upgrades, changes, performance and policies.
• Repeated and continuous lifting of packages up to 60lbs.
• Sort packages based on customer, airport of destination, and other parameters.
• Communicate piece counts, and package information to Lead Hands, and Supervisors.
• Handle customer packages, and freight with due care and attention.
• Ensure all safety and security protocols are adhered to.
• Perform general housekeeping duties as required.
• Perform tasks associated with Dangerous Goods Handling/Acceptance.
• Meet time sensitive deadlines for freight build-up/breakdown as part of a team dynamic.
• Learn and apply specific training modules required for position (WHMIS, SMS, Dangerous Goods, Hazard Prevention, etc…).

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Graduate or equivalent experience.
• Ability to obtain a RAIC pass (Transport Canada Security Clearance).
• Maintain valid AVOP.
• Hold a valid driver’s license and have own reliable transportation for shifts off-hour of public transportation.
• Excellent driving skills.
• Ability to drive-in all-weather conditions.
• Ability to lift up to 60lbs repeatedly.
• Ability to work within a “team first” environment, and complete common goals within time sensitive deadlines.
• Excellent punctuality and attendance habits.
• Ability to learn quickly and adapt to fast changing customer requirements.
• Willingness to take direction with a keen interest in further development within the local operation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Flexible to work shift work, weekends, and stat holidays.
• Good organizational skills.
