Job summary

Commonpoint Queens seeks dedicated youth workers to staff its after-school program in Bay Terrace, Bayside. The role involves supervising children ages 5–14, arranging daily activities, and maintaining organized spaces.

Hours are 2:30 PM–6:00 PM, Monday–Friday, with some extended hours and occasional weekends. Experience with diverse families and individuals is valued, and disabilities experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Open to all ages (including high‑school aged students).
  • Excellent communication skills; must be friendly, engaging and patient with children, peers, and families.
  • Attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize daily workload.
  • Demonstrate cultural competency through familiarity working with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with children with disabilities is a huge plus.

Responsibilities

  • Administrative duties include completing and monitoring daily attendance sheets.
  • Planning and implementing daily activities and programming.
  • Responsible for maintaining classroom space in an organized and clean fashion.
  • Chaperone youth from one activity to another, including arrivals and departures.
  • Working collectively and communicating with all peers, classroom staff, floor supervisor, and program director.
  • Attend youth worker training sessions and staff meetings.

Job description

Commonpoint (formerly known as Commonpoint Queens) is a 501(c)(3) non‑profit community center serving over 10,000 persons of diverse backgrounds in Queens. Commonpoint provides a continuum of social, recreational, and educational services for children, families, and adults. For over two generations, Commonpoint has been a special place for thousands of families, older adults, children, and individuals who participate in its parenting, preschool, after school, cultural arts, camping, health and fitness, social services, and senior programs.

We are currently looking for youth workers to staff our special education after‑school program in our Bay Terrace, Bayside location. Salary is based on experience. We have a strong preference for candidates that can commit to five (5) days a week for the hours of 2/2:30 pm to 6:00 pm. Some extended hours and occasional weekend opportunities are available.

Job Details
  • Salary: $18‑$20 per hour (commensurate with experience)
  • Approximate Start Date: September 2026 (through June 2027)
  • Days: Monday – Friday
  • Hours: 19 hours per week (2:30 pm – 6:00 pm)
