Job summary

ShawenimAbinoojii is seeking a Support Worker for the Memengwaa Program in Winnipeg, MB. This one-year term position reports to the Program Supervisor and works full-time to support youth transitioning to independent living.

You will collaborate with Youth Transition Workers, organize activities, support life skills, coordinate with the team, and help youth access services such as IDs and appointments. The role emphasizes safety, wellness, and Indigenous perspectives.

Qualifications

• Clear Child Abuse, Adult Abuse, and Criminal records check (with Vulnerable Persons check) required.
• Ability to walk multiple flights of stairs may be required.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
• Experience with child welfare or youth transitioning out of care preferred.
• Knowledge of Indigenous perspectives and First Nations culture required.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site support for youth to enhance wellness.
• Organize social and recreational activities for youth on-site and in the community.
• Encourage youth to engage in community participation and volunteering.
• Coordinate or facilitate group activities or workshops with Youth Transition Workers.
• Communicate with Youth Workers to identify goals for each youth.
• Support life skills development (household chores, cooking, maintenance).
• Help ensure youth maintain a healthy home meeting health and safety requirements.
• Assist youth with appointments and access to resources (IDs, etc.).
• Support youth in researching and applying for school, work, or programs.
• Intervene in crises calmly and effectively and connect to resources.
• Maintain accurate written records and incident documentation.
• Attend training and participate in team meetings.
• Full-time hours based on programming requirements.
• Other duties as assigned.
