Youth Programs Facilitator

Role : Facilitates, plans and implements all aspects of Quadra Village Community Centre’s Youth Programs (Youth Drop-In, The CREW, Social Connections and youth events and initiatives) in conjunction with the Youth Programs Coordinator.

Key Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Ensures the Youth Centre environment is engaging, welcoming, clean, safe and hazard free for the operation of youth programs.
  • Engages in relationship building with youth, families, and community connections.
  • Facilitates life skills, social skills, and self-worth development.
  • Ensures that ideas and plans are youth-driven and led.
  • Assists youth undergoing hardships and provides mentorship, support referrals and system navigation as necessary.
  • Approaches work utilizing community development and asset building strategies.
  • Coordinates and implements a variety of workshops and out trips.
  • Facilitates The Crew annual events and fundraisers, including Craft Fairs & Markets, Quadra Village Day, The Halloween event, the Winter Dinner, and final Crew trip.
  • Coordinates and prepares with Youth Coordinator a bi-monthly Youth & Family Night, including planning and cooking meals
  • Transports youth when required
  • Works collaboratively and provides mentorship to QVCC Youth Workers, Practicum Students, and volunteers, in conjunction with Youth Programs Coordinator.
  • Collaborates with community, service providers, businesses, community groups, and events.
  • Identifies and implements best practices appropriate for youth programs, to deliver quality programming.
  • Ensures maintenance and tabulation of attendance and statistics regarding all youth program activities and events.
  • Maintains and updates posts on youth programs’ social media accounts.
  • Engages as needed in educational opportunities related to youth work, attend community meetings and trainings as agreed to by supervisor.
  • Is familiar with and implements QVCC’s policies, procedures and practices, the Youth Programs Handbook and Youth Programs Training Manual.
  • Responds to general inquiries regarding QVCC and shares in the work of operating and maintaining an inclusive, functional community centre
  • Performs other related duties when required and approved by the Executive Director

Qualifications :

  • Committed to an anti-oppressive, decolonial, and anti-racist practice
  • Post-secondary degree in Child and Youth Care, Family Studies, Social Work, Recreation or comparable degree, or minimum of two years’ work experience with youth contending with issues such as poverty, family violence, or mental health problems
  • Preference to candidates with two or more years of experience working with a diverse population of youth cultures in a community centre setting
  • Preference to candidates with lived experience, knowledge, and / or awareness of First Nations populations and diverse cultures
  • One to one and group facilitation skills
  • Clear Criminal Record Check is required.
  • Emergency First Aid and Food Safe
  • Class 4 Driver’s License and training specific to youth work is an asset
  • Hours of Work :

  • hours per week
  • Hours will vary between day and evening shifts, weekday and weekend shifts
  • Additional hours, times, or days may be required dependent on agency needs and events
  • Benefits & Remuneration :

  • per hour, increases with tenure
  • 3 weeks vacation (based on full calendar year worked)
