A nonprofit organization supporting fatherless youth seeks a part-time Youth Program Facilitator in Toronto, Ontario. The ideal candidate should have personal experience with father-absent situations and be passionate about mentoring girls. You will prepare and deliver engaging programming, foster positive relationships, and promote the well-being of participants. The role involves 2 hours per week, primarily on Tuesdays from 3-5 PM. Mileage reimbursement is available for travel.
Please note that this position is very part-time, 2 hours per week. The candidate must be consistently available on Tuesdays from 3-5 pm and be comfortable facilitating at the juvenile detention center.
Mission and History
Established in 2016, From Fatherless to Fearless empowers and equips fatherless women with absent or
strained father relationships on their journey to healing and wholeness. The organization has impacted
over 2,000 women through mental, emotional, and financial health services, life enrichment classes, and
multiple international award-winning books. From Fatherless to Fearless consists of people, community, and programming that, together, empower women to succeed. Trained program facilitators build lasting mentoring relationships in girls-only spaces that are physically and emotionally safe and where girls find a sisterhood of support with shared drive, mutual respect, and high expectations. By healing from trauma and focusing on forgiveness, girls can intentionally focus on their future.
Job Summary and Purpose
From Fatherless to Fearless offers girl-only programs throughout the United States to help girls
navigate the real-life challenges they confront during high school and occasionally middle school. We lay the groundwork for healthy, independent, and fulfilling futures. The Youth Program Facilitator is responsible for preparing and delivering From Fatherless to Fearless core programming (including mental, emotional, and financial health) and leading activities for teen girls. The facilitator must work collaboratively with program aides to deliver safe and effective instruction in goal-driven lessons, games, and activities. This individual will also have a pivotal role in becoming a role model and mentor to girls, promoting their well-being, development, confidence, and success; motivating and inspiring girls to be active participants in program activities; promoting their long-term involvement and providing evaluation and feedback to ensure our programs stay relevant to all girls. Facilitators will support and act consistently with the mission of From Fatherless to Fearless.
Duties and Responsibilities
● Prepare, deliver, track, and evaluate programs for our participants
● Create a safe space for girls to explore their values and identities
● Encourage the development of positive peer relationships among program participants
● Ensure participant safety; follow the agreed-upon protocol for mandated reporting
● As needed, work with other From Fatherless to Fearless staff to coordinate guest speakers, field
trips, and school schedules
● Work to ensure that programs meet goals and objectives and create the desired outcomes,
following the direction of the Program Manager regarding which programs will be offered and to adapt/
enhance when necessary
● Record and maintain program, attendance, outcome, and evaluation data in From Fatherless to
Fearless tools
● Regularly document and share with other From Fatherless to Fearless staff highlights and quotables from programs and events in support of funder development and relationship-building
● Participate actively in collaborative team exchange of ideas and practices
● Other duties as deemed necessary
Curriculum
● Ability to adapt curriculum and structure asset-based lessons that engage and appeal to high
school and college girls in a fun, interactive, and empowering learning environment
● Expertise and ability to work independently in the following From Fatherless to Fearless
program areas: youth development, mental health, spiritual wellness, economic literacy, and
college and career planning;
Administration
● Organize effectively (track tasks, regularly update calendars and records in the company
software and work to deadlines)
● Prioritize appropriately and act in keeping with priorities
● Actively identify and address inhibitors to progress
● Demonstrate expertise with office technologies, especially Microsoft Office, PowerPoint,
spreadsheets, and internet resources such as Google Docs
● Interact positively and professionally with school and partner agency site staff
● Provide timely, specific feedback to other stakeholders
● Recognize and manage conflict situations with support from the Program Manager
Communication Skills
● Motivating and inspirational verbal presentation style
● Ability to encourage genuine and respectful communication among program participants
● Excellent verbal and written skills, as seen in communications with staff, students, parents,
and school partners
● Ability to be an effective ambassador, promoting and representing the From Fatherless to
Fearless mission to the community, funders, and Board of Directors
Qualifications
● Candidate must have personally experienced an absent or strained relationship with their
father
● Candidate must be willing to share their personal journey throughout the program
● Candidate should demonstrate the ability to engage adolescent girls positively
● Candidate will have the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment, sharing information, ideas, and effective practices
● Candidate must have transportation and will be expected to travel to program sites
● 1-2 years of experience delivering youth leadership programming a plus
● Specialized knowledge of girls’ developmental needs and experience a plus
