Job summary

The Indigenous Women's Healing Centre is seeking a full-time Youth Mentor for the Circle of Care program. This culturally sensitive role involves supporting children 0-10 years in a nurturing environment, implementing care plans, and collaborating with families. The qualified individual will have a Child & Youth Care Diploma and relevant experience, with a strong understanding of Indigenous values.

Qualifications

  • Child & Youth Care Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in residential care preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification mandatory.

Responsibilities

Job description

POSTING # 25-06-01POSITION TYPE FULL-TIME (Mon – Fri/Overnight 12 am – 8 am)Background:The Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre is seeking an individual for the Youth Mentor position at the Circle of Care program. The Circle of Care program is a culturally appropriate placement for children between the ages of 0 and 10 years old utilized by the All Nations Coordinated Response Network (ANCR) for children first time in care or those re-entering care, who require short term placement supported by the Indigenous values. Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre utilizes a holistic approach with children, their families, and networks to foster growth in relationships, and skill development to meet the goal of reunification.Qualifications:

  • Child & Youth Care Diploma or acceptable equivalent and related experience;
  • Residential Care experience would be an asset;
  • Supporting care plans and implementing with the young children;
  • Provides support/supervision to children 0-10 years;
  • Must be able to provide a nurturing and loving environment;
  • Incumbent must be aware of the developmental and attachment needs of children 0-10;
  • Must have the ability to work with parents of children in placement;
  • Must have the ability to work cooperatively with others and contribute as a team member;
  • Ability to work under stressful situations;
  • Knowledge of the Child Welfare Legislation and Standards;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Understanding of Indigenous values and community issues;
  • First Aid/CPR Certification;
  • Valid Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License;
  • Must provide current (within the last three months) Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector search, Child Abuse Registry check and be subject to a Prior Contact Check.
