Title: Seasonal Garden Technician
Positions: 2
Eligibilty: Youth aged 15-18 years old (preference will be given to high school students).
Organization: Urban Farm Initiative
Location: Rexlington Community Garden (30 Bergamont Avenue , Rexdale, Etobicoke, Ontario)

Urban Farm Initiative is a registered non-profit organization that establishes community gardens throughout the Greater Toronto Area. We are currently looking to hire two individuals to help maintain the garden.

Position Summary:

We are seeking two enthusiastic young people who want to learn about gardening and enjoy spending time outdoors. Candidates should also be comfortable interacting with the community. Availability on weekends may be required to assist with gardening events.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the community garden by weeding and watering.
  • Stock and manage the inventory of garden supplies and materials.
  • Oversee community garden volunteers and provide guidance.
  • Contribute content for the monthly newsletter about garden activities.

Ensure the garden is tidy.

Qualifications:

  • Must reside in the Rexdale neighborhood.
  • Youth aged 15-18 years old (preference will be given to high school students).
  • At least 1 year of experience in organic, urban, or community gardening.
  • A strong interest in gardening or a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team as well as independently.
  • Capable of multitasking on various tasks.
  • Ability to lift 25-30 lbs.
  • Work will be conducted outdoors in various weather conditions.

Terms:

  • 15 hours per week at a rate of $16.60 for 8 weeks.
