Nishnawbe-Aski Legal Services Corporation is presently recruiting for a

YOUTH INTERVENTION WORKER

(External Posting, Term Contract – Ending September 30, 2025)

Sandy Lake, ON

The Youth Intervention Worker will play an important role in developing the local program and assisting young persons integrate into the community in a positive and meaningful way. To facilitate this process, the YIW will assist in the development of plans for special activities, individualized work placements and/or restitution activities and will monitor and supervise these plans towards their successful completion.

Qualifications:

  1. Experience and knowledge of Indigenous issues and the current legal system.
  2. Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
  3. Have a genuine interest in seeing Youth develop and succeed.
  4. Proficient working knowledge of MS Office Software, internet, and general office equipment.
  5. Travel will be required.
  6. Ability to speak Oji-Cree, Cree or Ojibway is an asset.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Liaise with court, police, judges, and probation officers to arrange for referrals to divert charges to RJC.
  2. Attend Restorative Justice Circles as a resource person or facilitate Restorative Justice Circles when needed.
  3. Assist in the development of plans for special activities, individualized work placements and/or restitution activities in meetings with the case manager, and other relevant stakeholders.
  4. Ensure that all clients report according to the terms of their orders.
  5. Follow-up on any counseling or referrals required as per supervision plans, deferred custody orders, and report progress to the case manager.
  6. Identify any areas of concern, or non-compliance with program participation to the individual youth’s supervising Probation Officer immediately.
  7. The worker will be required to facilitate the HUB programming and community presentations when asked.

Location: Sandy Lake, ON

Hours: Full Time – Contract (35 Hours Per Week)

Starting Salary: $47,286 Annually
