Job summary

Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre seeks a Child and Youth Care Practitioner to join a multi-disciplinary team addressing youth ages 12-26 and their families. You will empower youth, support community strategies, and facilitate programs that respond to identified needs across Kanata, Goulburn and West Carleton.

This is a temporary part-time role at 21 hours/week with a mid-October start through March 31, 2027, with potential extension.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in the Child and Youth Care Practitioner program, or degree in Social Work, or equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with youth, their family and community in a community-based model.
  • Training and experience with group facilitation and leadership development.
  • Knowledge of risk, risk assessment and protective factors faced by LGBTQ+ youth.
  • Lived experience of homophobia, biphobia, transphobia is an asset.
  • Knowledge of professional standards and ethical guidelines for child and youth workers.

Responsibilities

  • Outreach activities to at-risk youth (ages 12-26) and their families including identification of needs and interests.
  • Develops and implements community-based leadership and mentoring programs and workshops.
  • Facilitates projects and forums related to youth needs and community engagement.
  • Promotes volunteerism and supervises volunteers with orientation, evaluation, feedback.
  • Supports advocacy and raises awareness around youth issues.
  • Liaises with program staff and ensures program needs are met.
  • Maintains records, client database, and program documentation.
  • Participates in team and partner agency meetings and writes interim/final reports.
